This recruitment is for our on-call substitute Librarian Pool. Availability of shifts may vary. Librarians are responsible for performing a variety of professional librarian duties. This may include: providing direct assistance to library customers in the location of information and library materials; serving as a resource for children, young adults, adults and library staff; conducting library tours, giving book talks, and planning, promoting, or presenting other programs; working with community groups to promote understanding, use and support of library service activities; analyzing, interpreting and answering reference questions, and providing reader’s advisory information; supervising, leading or training the work of a clerical and technical staff as assigned; assuming responsibility for a facility or a section as assigned; selecting and managing collections; cataloging; web development and design. This position may include evenings and weekend shifts. The salary range for Librarian I Part Time classification is $27.69 – $33.66 per hour. Librarian II Part time classification range is $29.62 to $36.03 per hour.
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university. No experience is required at the Librarian I level. One year of full-time professional library experience is required at the Librarian II level.

Librarian I is the entry-level professional position with the Santa Clara County Library, with a wide variety of potential assignments serving adults, teens, or children at community libraries; working on the Bookmobile; or working in collection development or cataloging at the Library Administration offices.
There are currently three Librarian I positions available.
One vacancy is a full-time Spanish-speaking vacancy at Adult Services, located at the Gilroy Library. The selected candidate must take and pass the Spanish Bilingual examination prior to hire.
In addition, there are two (2) half-time positions available. One at the Saratoga Library in Children’s Services and one at the Morgan Hill Library in Adult Services. These two half-time positions do not have bilingual requirements.

The Liaison Librarian is responsible for collection development, information literacy, reference service (to both university and public users) and research consultation in assigned subject areas. The Liaison Librarian participates in the library’s information literacy competence program, enhancement of the library’s technology-enabled informational and instructional services and products, the campus learning spaces and learning management systems, and university governance.
This is a twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian.
Qualifications: Required
- MLS degree from an ALA accredited program or equivalent.
- Experience and/or coursework in collection development, reference service/research consultation and information literacy/instruction.
- Potential for scholarly research and/or professional achievement.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational needs of a diverse population, as gained through cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience, as applied to ensuring user-centered services, systems, and programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with public and academic librarians and staff, teaching faculty, and students in a team-based organization and a rapidly changing information environment.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and implement innovative projects or services, including community outreach programs to the community.
- Experience and/or coursework in incorporating current and emerging technologies into informational and instructional services.

Diablo Valley College has an outstanding Library Certificate program and we are seeking a part-time instructor to teach a course beginning in Spring 2012. It is an in-person class, meeting one evening/week.
The course is L-109 – Delivering Library Services: Issues, Theory, and Techniques and is for 2 semester units.
I have taught in this program part-time for many years and the students are smart and motivated.
