<h3><span id="more-1854"></span>GENERAL SUMMARY</h3>
<p>Established 28 years ago, National Hispanic University provides accessible and affordable quality education for underserved students.  Through innovation, engagement and student-centered learning, National Hispanic University, a fully accredited, four-year university is fostering successful academic and economic futures of its students.  The National Hispanic University offers undergraduate degrees in Child Development, Liberal Studies, Business, and Mathematics and Science, as well as a Master’s degree in Teacher Education and several California teacher certificate programs.</p>
<p>We seek a librarian with experience and training in information literacy, research methods, teacher education, and/ or early childhood education, who will work with both campus based and online students and faculty.<br />
The Reference Librarian reports to the Director of Library Services. , position will be responsible for the following services and assignments.</p>
<h3>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide expertise and leadership in general reference services (live, remote, and web-based).</li>
<li>Develop and present course-related instruction and conduct seminars, student orientations and student tutorials in undergraduate and graduate subject areas.</li>
<li>Collaborate with faculty on research projects and provide research assistance to faculty and graduate students.</li>
<li>Create subject web pages and guides to research.</li>
<li>Develop collections in appropriate formats to support the academic units served.</li>
<li>Serve as liaison to assigned departments.</li>
<li>Maintain, analyze and report statistics in area of responsibility.</li>
<li>Represent the National Hispanic University Library at campus and Laureate and at local and national library events.</li>
<li>Stay current with new technologies and products. Participate in assessment activities such as surveys, statistics,</li>
</ul>
<h3>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</h3>
<ul>
<li>Participate in University and professional activities.</li>
<li>Work as a member of the Reference and Instruction Team.</li>
<li>May perform other duties and responsibilities as required.</li>

<p>BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB<br />
As a member of the University Library Team, this librarian will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Coordinate the University Library’s research instruction program, working collegially with others to promote information literacy in the Golden Gate University community through varied in-person and online instruction settings, assignment development, and higher-level curricular planning as available</li>
<li>Maintain awareness of current information literacy concepts and practices, as well as new and innovative instruction and instructional assessment techniques</li>
<li>Provide reference and instruction to Golden Gate University students, faculty, staff, corporate and alumni members at all locations, including those affiliated with the University via CyberCampus</li>
<li>Work with other library staff members and faculty to evaluate, select, and deselect materials in all relevant media</li>
<li>Participate in library outreach, planning, assessment, and evaluation</li>
<li>Collaborate with other staff in peer training and staff development</li>
<li>Serve as the library&#8217;s subject specialist and liaison for assigned disciplines (to be determined based on candidate&#8217;s experience and organizational needs) and maintain effective communication with faculty in liaison areas</li>
<li>Participate in other projects as assigned by the Library Director</li>
</ul>
<p>Schedule includes evening reference shifts, and one or more weekend days per month.</p>
<h3>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</h3>
<p>This librarian is responsible for the University Library&#8217;s research instruction program. As instruction coordinator, this librarian works collegially with others in the following areas:</p>
<p><strong>Research Instruction Program Coordinator: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Coordinates all library instruction. Working with a team of reference librarians, coordinates faculty outreach efforts, guides library instruction methodology and research and explores effective, innovative ways of providing research instruction to students and faculty, wherever they are located</li>
<li>Coordinates and maintains quantitative and qualitative assessment of library instructional services. Assesses the effectiveness of library instruction services and identifies ways to make library instruction services more effective and efficient, given the needs of adult learners located throughout the world, variations in learning styles, and technological opportunities</li>
<li>Liaises with faculty in assigned departments to promote library outreach, instruction, and collection development</li>
<li>Works with Public Services Librarian to create and facilitate library workshops and training sessions</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Reference Services: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Provides reference services to students, faculty, staff, and corporate members of the library using a variety of modes including in-person, email, IM, phone reference, and appointments</li>
<li>Uses reference interactions as opportunities to help users develop key information literacy skills</li>
<li>Orients patrons and prospective students to the range of print and online resources available, and participates in new student orientations as necessary</li>
<li>When on duty at reference desk on evenings and weekends, oversees library assistants and student workers in handling questions of policies, complaints, difficult patrons, and security issues</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Collection Development: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Works with other library staff members and faculty in assigned subject areas to evaluate, select, and deselect materials in all relevant media</li>
<li>Develops reference and research guides in print and electronic media</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Planning, Assessment, and Evaluation: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Participates in University Library planning, assessment, and evaluation</li>
<li>Participates in preparation of University Library policies</li>
<li>Participates in assessment of needs for computer and other library equipment</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Staff Development: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Collaborates with staff in peer training and other staff development needs</li>
<li>Participates in relevant listservs for new resources, ideas, solutions, and recommendations</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Other: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Participates in a variety of outreach activities, some of which occur on evenings and weekends</li>
<li>Performs related duties and completes special projects as assigned by the Director</li>
</ul>
<h3>QUALIFICATIONS</h3>

<p><strong>Required qualifications: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program</li>
<li>One year of professional experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library to a diverse clientele of adult undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students</li>
<li>One year of professional experience providing liaison duties with faculty, identifying collection development needs, locating and evaluating resources to meet those needs in light of organizational objectives and other requirements</li>
<li>Knowledge of best practices, standards, issues and trends relevant to information literacy in an academic setting</li>
<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills</li>
<li>Ability to communicate with and relate to an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community</li>
<li>Flexible and open to incorporating new technologies appropriate to adoption in the academic library environment</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred qualifications: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of business reference and experience providing reference support to business students and others in professional practice education</li>
<li>Experience providing reference and instruction to patrons in distant locations utilizing a variety of appropriate technologies</li>

<p><strong>JOB DESCRIPTION</strong><br />
Staff a community-based branch of a health library.  Prepare patron research packets and performs on-line database searches. Assist in the staffing, promotion, and delivery of services for all library sites, working closely with other library staff. Work with the Director to implement the systems and technical service provided by the Library at all sites. Maintains computers and refers to IT for support of both staff and public-access Internet services.</p>
<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</strong></p>

<li>Provide patron services: conducting reference interviews and assisting patrons with research</li>
<li>Work with educators at health clinic to meet their information needs</li>
<li>Coordinate staffing of libraries with other branches</li>
<li>Work with on-site volunteer (s)</li>
<li>Acts a liaison between branch clinic and Main Library as first point of contact between agencies and relays information to Director of Main Library</li>
<li>Participate in the planning process for library expenditures and physical facilities</li>
<li>Coordinate staffing for branch</li>

This position requires multitasking and assisting faculty and students with many activities associated with discovering learning resources and digital information.</p>

<p><strong>POSITION </strong><br />
Under the supervision of the Dean of Learning Resources and Academic Technology or assigned manager this position will be responsible to perform a variety of instructional services and co-ordination activities related to the Learning Resources. This may include circulation desk operations; daily operations, and e-campus service support and assistance to faculty, students and college personnel.</p>

May exercise functional and technical oversight for student assistants.</p>
<p><strong>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p>
<p>The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.</p>
<ul>
<li>Acquire, prepare, and organize LRC materials, and help users to find those materials.</li>
<li>Work with end users to access the internet and other technologies, and provide assistance to help them find electronic resources for various projects.</li>
<li>Organize and maintain periodicals, prepare volumes for binding, handle inter-LRC loan requests, prepare invoices, perform routine cataloging and coding of library materials, retrieve information from computer databases, and supervise student support staff.</li>
<li>Market LRC services by participating in and helping to plan reader advisory programs, used-book sales, and outreach programs. Design posters, bulletin boards, or displays to inform patrons of LRC events and services.</li>
<li>Maintain, update, and help customize electronic databases.</li>
<li>Show patrons how to use LRC computers and scanner/copy to email copier.</li>
<li>Respond to student online request for resource materials available through the LRC.</li>
<li>Operate and maintain audiovisual and multimedia equipment.</li>
<li>Assist faculty in obtaining instructional and research materials for courses offered at any of the three campuses. This includes working with the E-campus course management system.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>
<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</strong> Operate a variety of Learning Resource Center equipment including audio-visual equipment, computers, and automated LRC circulation systems. Knowledge of cataloging. Excellent public service and communication skills. Able to assist Learning Resource Center patrons in response to basic and routine reference and related LRC questions.  Able to participate in all aspects of the LRC, including LRC circulation activities. Able to supervise, train, and oversee the work of assigned student staff.</p>
<p>Able to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Basic Math skills. Experience in using the Internet, other web tools, and course management systems. Sensitive to and understanding of principles of sustainability, and the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college personnel and students and the communities served by the College. Learn quickly.  Work with others in a diverse working community.  Speak, read and write proficiently in English to campus and community.  Represent the college in a professional manner</p>
<p><strong>Other Requirements:</strong> Must possess a valid California driver&#8217;s license and have a satisfactory driving record.</p>
<p><strong>EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES</strong><br />

Graziano Library at Samuel Merritt University seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for an information literacy and allied health professions librarian position. The John A. Graziano Library is an academic research library serving the schools and departments of nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and podiatric medicine. The library has a strong emphasis on providing access to a wide variety of electronic information resources, and educating faculty, students, and staff through course-integrated instruction, face to face research assistance, and online tutorials.  The library contains more than 40,000 volumes and receives more than 130 current print journals and more than 1,800 current electronic journals.  Users include medical, nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy undergraduate and graduate students, 129 full-time faculty, and a large number of other health professionals. The library staff of 8.55 FTE includes 6 librarians/professionals. <p><strong>Job Summary:</strong><br />
Primary responsibility for information literacy as well as library reference and outreach services, collection development, and selection and integration of electronic resources for the allied health professions.  Works with the Library Director in support of library strategic planning and participates in divisional and university-wide planning efforts.  Coordinates with the Library Director to create, prioritize and implement library goals and objectives.  Supervises other library employees in the Director’s absence.</p>
<p><strong>Skills and Abilities:</strong></p>

<li>Knowledge of the health science literature, especially in the field of nursing</li>
<li>Skill in searching electronic information sources</li>
<li>Ability to download, manipulate and disseminate the results of database searches</li>
<li>Familiarity with RefWorks and other bibliographic citation tools</li>
<li>Familiarity with MeSH, CINAHL, PubMed and NLM classification systems</li>
<li>Ability to teach in a classroom setting as well as to small groups</li>
