Information and Instructional Services Librarian

Under the direction of the Dean of Library and Information Services, the Information and Instructional Services Librarian teaches research and information literacy skills to undergraduate students within the College's academic concentrations (Liberal Arts, Management, and Mass Communications) and provides general reference and information services at the Bowman Library Information Desk, including nights and weekends on a rotating basis. Working collaboratively professionals on the Library Team, this position will develop and assess innovative instructional and reference services emphasizing electronic information resources. It is expected that these responsibilities will be accomplished through extensive outreach to faculty.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience providing reference and/or instruction in an academic or special library.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent relevant experience in social sciences, business administration, communications, or liberal arts.
  • Must have a strong grasp of the current state of information technology and its potential for innovative instructional and reference services.
  • Experience with web page development.
  • Knowledge of Windows and integrated library systems.
  • Knowledge of the Internet and WWW.
  • Strong commitment to excellent public service.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully.
  • Experience in using, explaining, and teaching both print and electronic resources.
  • Familiarity with issues and trends related to library instructional and information services in an electronic environment.
Preferred:
  • Recent professional public services experience in a small college setting or related environment, particularly with a team-based orientation.
  • Bibliographic instruction and information literacy teaching employing emerging instructional technologies.
  • Experience in instructional planning, design, and evaluation.
  • Intensive work in a networked teaching/learning environment, including the Internet, and electronic resources.
  • Experience selecting reference sources and library materials for an undergraduate library collection.
  • Professional experience in a small college setting or related environment, particularly with a team-based orientation.
  • Experience using Innovative Interfaces ILS for public and technical processes.
  • Successful project management experience.
  • Knowledge of a standard mark-up language (XML, HTML).
  • Familiarity with issues and trends related to library instructional and information services in an electronic environment.
  • Additional Skills: Self-assurance, flexibility, and a sense of humor plus the ability to find one's feet quickly and keep one's balance performing a wide range of activities. Someone will be happiest at the Library and the College if they are committed to the small college living/learning experience, an energetic, committed pitcher-in; if they do not wait for others to define their role, stand on ceremony, or assume a strict construction of their responsibilities; and if they have a broad range of intellectual interests.

Salary: Commensurate with experience. Hiring range: $43,000-$46,000.
