for enhancing its collections through acquisitions, cataloging,

Collections Management Librarian
Primary Responsibilities:
- The management and coordination of Bowman Library programs providing both physical and intellectual access to the Library's collections including:
- Coordination of processing and maintenance of the Bowman Library collection.
- Coordination of the ongoing development and management of the Library's electronic information resources.
- Assisting in the ongoing growth and assessment of collections and services.
- Coordinating faculty involvement with selection and use of the collections.
- Program planning and management of the Menlo College community's access to resources world-wide through interlibrary loan and document delivery programs and services. Key work activities include:
- Planning, implementing, and managing processes and services related to the library's collection of
print, non-print, and electronic materials.
- Preparing and monitoring collections and access services budgets and expenditures.
- Collaborating with faculty.
- Working with vendors and contract management.
- Participating in knowledge management activities.
- Serving, as appropriate, on library and campus teams, task forces, and committees.
Other Professional Duties:
Serves at the Reference/Information Desk and provides library instruction and orientation, general and
subject-specific. Will serve as a liaison and collection development
librarian to an instructional department. May supervise library staff
and student assistants as necessary. May supervise library operations in
absence of Dean of Library Services and Information Services. Some
evening and weekend reference hours required, in rotation with library
professional staff. Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
- A minimum of 3 yrs professional experience in an academic or special library.
- Undergraduate degree in business administration, social sciences, or communications.
- 2-4 years cataloging experience, circulation/reserves, and/or interlibrary loan/document delivery experience (incorporating demonstrated expertise in the category of electronic resources).
- Working knowledge of LC classification system.
- Experience using an integrated library system for library technical processing and familiarity with a national bibliographic utility.
- Knowledge of automated acquisitions and serials library systems.
- Ability to work successfully within a team environment.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills including the ability to write and help implement procedures.
- Knowledge of Windows applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of the Internet and WWW, including experience with web page development.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
- Comfortable in a rapidly changing environment.
PREFERRED:
- Recent professional experience in a small college setting or related environment, particularly with a team-based orientation.
- Experience using Innovative Interfaces ILS for public and technical processes.
- Successful project management experience.
- Collection assessment experience.
- Reference and library instruction experience.
- Familiarity with issues and trends related to library collections processing and services as well as circulation/reserves and/or interlibrary loan and document delivery in an electronic environment.
- Additional Skills: Self-assurance, flexibility, and a sense of humor plus the ability to find one's feet quickly and keep one's balance performing a wide range of activities. Someone will be happiest at the Library and the College if they are committed to the small college living/learning experience, an energetic, committed pitcher-in; if they do not wait for others to define their role, stand on ceremony, or assume a strict construction of their responsibilities; and if they have a broad range of intellectual interests.
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Hiring range: $45,000-$48,000.
