Position: Librarian
Department: Stanford University News Service
Duration: 6 months, temporary, April 15, 2004 - October 15, 2004
Work schedule: 8 am-5 pm, Mon-Fri

Stanford University News Service seeks a librarian for a six-month temporary position to manage a collection of photographic and print materials related to Stanford University and higher education; and to produce a daily electronic news digest for on-campus distribution.

Responsibilities:
- Catalog, index, and archive the photo and print collections
- Produce a daily electronic news digest for on-campus distribution, using online databases and clipping services
- Answer photo requests for the Stanford community, external media organizations and other clients
- Provide reference service to University Communications and Stanford News Service departments
- Supervise the work of one temporary employee and one intern

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in library science/information management with at least 2 years of news library experience with print and photo collections
- Experience indexing and cataloging photographs, preferably with Cumulus image database system
- Expert Internet searcher
- Experience with FileMaker Pro, MSWord, MSExcel
- Excellent client service skills
- Ability to set priorities in busy environment and to respond to tight deadlines
