Description:
Reporting to the Digital Library Projects Manager, oversees the operation of
the night shift of a digital scanning lab for the conversion of print materials to
electronic formats. Operates sophisticated scanning equipment to digitize books in a
production scanning facility. Supervises a student assistant. Completes all tasks
involved in digitization and conversion workflows. These include metadata entry,
scanning, quality assurance, and image conversion to PDF and text. Provides minimal
technical support and trouble-shooting for lab hardware and software. Oversees quality
assurance procedures, taking into account appropriate professional standards for
preserving and providing access to digital reproductions.
Qualifications:
Highly responsible and mature. Technical skills in the area of digital imaging, including but
not limited to the operation of digital cameras and scanners. Proficiency with imaging
software and imaging systems. Willingness and ability to learn preservation issues
involved in reformatting print materials. Ability to communicate effectively orally and
in writing, as well as possess strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work
independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
Experience administering Microsoft Windows systems desirable. Experience
working with programming scripts, database systems, and specialty computer applications.
Two-year college degree or equivalent.
Note: this is a fixed-term, part-time appointment for 6 months; term may be extended,
dependent upon available funding.
