| Description: | The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a full-time Library Assistant III based at the Barnett-Briggs Medical Library, San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center. The Library Assistant III performs specialized technical processing and reference paraprofessional duties under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Education and Information Services. The position applies knowledge of library policies and procedures, works highly independently and demonstrates behavior and skills necessary for effective library operation. Responsibilities: Is responsible for interlibrary loan and document delivery services, monitoring ILL activity and maintaining accurate records. Implements daily management of activities related to the processing of library journals, serials, and monographs. Supervises quarterly bindery preparation. Is responsible for opening the Library and providing coverage at scheduled shift. Provides informational and directional assistance to patrons and conducts on-demand user education to patrons needing assistance accessing electronic University-licensed databases, textbooks and full-text journals. Requirements: High school graduation or GED and four years of related library experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience providing public service while displaying a professional, friendly and courteous manner. Excellent computer skills, including experience using Word, Outlook, Excel, and maintaining databases. Ability to be detail-oriented, multi-task, prioritize work as assigned and work with a high degree of accuracy; excellent problem solving and organizational skills. Ability to work in a team environment; excellent spoken and written communication skills. Position requires lifting materials weighing up to 25 lbs. Preferred: 1-2 years recent experience in technical procedures and/or experience working in a special library. General knowledge of UC-Melvyl and the INNOPAC online systems, including different modules, record types, coding and fields used. Familiarity with Docline, MEDLINE and other medical information databases. Salary/Benefits: Salary $2,594 - $3,232 monthly commensurate with experience and skills.
