Education and Information Consultant, Clinical Programs
Associate Librarian

The Library and Center for Knowledge Management at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) seeks an innovative librarian to serve on its education and reference team consisting of a Manager of Education and Information Services and four information consultants. The education and information consultants serve as liaisons to the academic programs at UCSF and develop curriculum-based instruction to serve those programs. One consultant serves programs in the Schools of Nursing and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and another serves the School of Pharmacy and Basic Science programs. This position serves programs in the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and reports to the Manager of Education and Information Services. All information consultants contribute to the education programs and reference services at UCSF. The UCSF School of Medicine makes extensive use of the Web to deliver a highly integrated curriculum. This position would work to develop web-based instructional content to complement the School of Medicine curriculum, as well as other UCSF curricula.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Perform outreach and liaise with the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and related departments.
  • Develop and deliver curricula in the Library's informatics training program, including curriculum-based education programs.
  • Utilize educational and instructional technologies to create and maintain web-deliverable interactive instructional programs.
  • Provide individualized consultation with clientele in information management tools and skills.
  • Support other reference and education activities of the library. This position offers the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of projects and activities beyond education and outreach, such as web content development, reference service activities, implementation of new technologies and services, and collaboration with other University of California campus libraries.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and information science, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in an academic health or biosciences library or academically-affiliated clinical environment.
  • Background in the health or biosciences desirable.
  • Strong background in the use of information technologies, especially instructional and educational technologies, web development tools, information management tools, and online databases.
  • Experience developing interactive online instructional materials.
  • Experience in instructional design, evaluating and assessing educational programs.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including classroom teaching experience.
  • The ability to work independently, to function as a member of a team, and to handle several different projects and responsibilities simultaneously.

Administrative Information:

Education and Information Consultants are academic positions in the Librarian series. Retention and promotion are based on four criteria: 1) professional competence and quality of service within the position, 2) professional activity outside the Library, 3) University and public service, and 4) research and other creative activity, including teaching and publication.

Appointment will be to the Librarian series at the rank of Associate Librarian Step I-VII ($42,996-$64,164), with level of appointment and starting salary dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package including 16 hours accrued vacation time per month.
