JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Cataloging Librarian, performs a variety of
tasks within the Technical Services Department to provide patron access to the
law library's information resources. Using standard cataloging tools performs
copy cataloging of new and existent materials in all formats at an advanced
operational level, i.e. one requiring comprehensive knowledge and understanding
of the use of applied cataloging rules according to national standards and local
practice, as well as extensive knowledge of the local collection. Requires high
level of skill in using complex supporting tables and documentation, and online
database manipulation and management. In conjunction with the Acquisitions Assistant,
participates in processing and shelving new materials. Supervises department student assistants.
REQUIREMENTS
College degree required. Equivalent level of education and experience may be
substituted for college degree. At least three years of copy cataloging,
preferably in an academic law library. Possession of excellent oral and written
communication skills. Must be flexible, open to learning/change, and comfortable/productive
working in a cross-departmental, team oriented environment.
