| Description: | POSITION: Library Technician - Access Services at Alliant International University, Hurwich Library, One Beach Street, San Francisco, CA 94133. REPORTS TO: Director of Library Services RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision, the incumbent is responsible for circulation activities, interlibrary loan (ILL), materials delivery, stacks maintenance, and audiovisual services. Specific duties include: CIRCULATION: Oversee circulation desk activities, including processing all notices and billing for unreturned materials on the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system. Direct the paging of inter-campus materials and the use of the materials booking function. Manage the LINK+ activity, including lending and borrowing functions and courier service. Attend LINK+ users' meetings as requested. Resolve patron circulation problems. Assist patrons with special needs and requests. INTERLIBRARY LOANS: In cooperation with other institutions, use the Innovative Millennium, OCLC and Docline systems to receive and process ILL requests from AIU students and other libraries. Maintain complete and accurate files and statistics. STACKS MAINTENANCE: Oversee shelving of library materials, general shelf maintenance, including shelf reading, searches for lost items, space planning, and shifting of the collection as needed. AUDIOVISUAL SERVICES: Schedule faculty and student requests for AV equipment use. Instruct patrons and the Interviewing and Observation classes in use of equipment, as necessary. Diagnose and order repair of equipment as needed. Maintain inventory of AV supplies. Act as primary contact with vendors for service on security system A/V equipment and copiers. SUPERVISION: Supervise student assistants working at the circulation desk, including hiring, training scheduling, and daily supervision of students. Evaluate student assistants' job performance each semester. Maintain Circulation Procedures Manual and Student Assistant Handbook. Oversee a variety of projects assigned to student assistants. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or Library Technician Certificate, and experience with library access services; experience with library automation, preferably the Innovative Interfaces system; experience using the OCLC ILL system and Docline, The National Library of Medicine's ILL system; familiarity with audiovisual equipment; good supervisory skills and experience; accurate typing and word processing skills; strict attention to detail; good oral communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with all segments of the campus community; ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment and to take initiative when appropriate. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Assistants STATUS: Non-exempt, full-time (35 hours per week), with the possibility of some evening and weekend hours.
