California State University, Hayward, Hayward, California: Part-Time Reference Librarian(s)

The University Library of California State University, Hayward is establishing a pool of librarians (Assistant Librarian rank) for temporary, part-time employment, during the Winter 2005 and Spring 2005 quarters (January 3, 2005 - June 11, 2005).

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Under the general direction of the Coordinator of Instruction & Research Services, provide quality reference service to CSUH undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons during weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends. Provide point-of-use instruction in the use of the online catalog, electronic databases, and other library resources. Perform other duties as assigned, which may include participation in instruction sessions for CSUH classes and other groups; developing bibliographic source guides and/or Internet-based tools; and providing service at CSUH's Contra Costa County campus in Concord.

Required: Candidates must have a graduate degree from an ALA accredited program; recent experience with Internet-based and web technologies; excellent oral communication skills; familiarity with the principles of information competence; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse clientele in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment; and a strong service commitment. Preference will be given to candidates with recent professional academic reference experience. Preference will also be given to candidates able to work regular shifts on nights and week-ends, and who are able to work at our Contra Costa County campus if needed.
