The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Access Services Librarian, Library Services, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Traditional community college academic librarian tasks, including providing reference and research assistance to students, staff, and faculty; internet searching for patrons; instructing patrons in the use of library systems and services; leading orientations; library instruction; selection of materials for inclusion in the collections; serving as library liaison to one or more instructional divisions. In addition, this position will take lead responsibility for the Library's access services, including circulation and reserves. This position is also responsible for supervision of the College's Instructional Make-up Testing Service. Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background and sexual orientation of community college student, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in library science, library and information science, OR the equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Strong interpersonal skills, including experience with decision making in a highly collaborative environment.
  2. Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.
  3. Experience with researching, finding, and evaluating information on the Internet.
  4. Experience with library circulation services in a highly automated and rapidly changing environment.
  5. Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in higher education and their impact on the nature of the community college library.
  6. Experience with providing library orientations and bibliographic instruction.
  7. Experience with developing and implementing library services and collections to serve a multicultural population.
  8. A strong orientation to service.
  9. Knowledge of trends and standards in community college libraries.
  10. Strong oral and written English communication skills.
In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
  1. Participation in professional library organizations.
  2. Familiarity with library circulation and reserve services including electronic reserves.

SALARY RANGE: $46,882-$72,936 annually plus benefits; actual placement is non-negotiable and is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

Faculty are also eligible for paid sabbatical leaves and stipends for educational and professional development.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Permanent, 10 months per year.
