Description: John F. Kennedy University is currently seeking a University Librarian. Founded in 1964, JFKU is a private, non-profit, accredited university serving approximately 1700 students in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since its founding, the university has evolved and expanded into one of California's leading providers of education for adult learners.

The library system consists of the central Robert M. Fisher Library in Pleasant Hill and the Berkeley and Campbell Campus branch libraries and supports and augments the curricula of four of the five JFKU schools: Graduate School of Professional Psychology, Graduate School for Holistic Studies, School of Education and Liberal Arts, and School of Management. The JFKU library collections, exclusive of the Law Library which is administered separately within the School of Law, include approximately 80,000 books, 1,000 videos, 800 print journal titles and access to databases containing full text articles from over 5,500 journal titles.

Essential qualifications:
  • MLS or MLIS degree and at least five years progressively responsible professional academic library experience and evaluation of library services.
  • Management experience, including successful track record of performance assessment of library personnel, budget management, planning, and supportive leadership of librarians and paraprofessional staff.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of library operations.
  • Understanding of information technology and library automated systems.
  • Knowledge of trends and developments affecting academic libraries and institutions.
  • Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces or similar on-line catalogue program, database purchasing, and the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and email.
Responsibilities:
  • Library system administration and management: oversee operations of Fisher, Berkeley and Campbell Campus libraries to include the budgets of each; set and implement long- and short-term goals; set and enforce policies; oversee daily operation of Fisher Library; assess, analyze, report on and improve quality of library services and collections.
  • Governance, professional and community activities: act as primary library liaison to university schools and administration; serve on University and Academic Councils; participate in strategic planning, program review and other committee work; maintain memberships in consortia and associations; oversee maintenance of web site, listserves, mailing lists, brochure generation, and direct electronic resource subscriptions for Northern California Consortium of Psychological Studies Libraries.
  • Collection management and acquisitions: provide leadership and oversight of collection management activities; develop and administer a collection management plan; oversee selection and management of electronic resources, serials selection, non-print materials, books and journals.
  • Public services: lead staff in providing excellent reference, circulation and outreach services; oversee the development of research instruction offered by librarians, including courses offered within the schools; establish and enforce policies regarding general library use.
  • Information technology: oversee planning, management and maintenance of library electronic services, web site, automated system, software applications and media equipment.
