Description: LIBRARY ASSOCIATES seeks an experienced Research Librarian for a newly created full-time (possibly part-time) position in a reputable law firm in the Bay Area, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides legal and non-legal research assistance to lawyers, law clerks, paralegals, and staff.
  • Compiles guides to the library's collection and subject bibliographies (print and electronic) on topics of current interest.
  • Supports the development of the library intranet site for all firm offices.
  • Participates in various in-house library instruction and orientation programs.
  • Stays current on rapidly changing technology developments relating to online research services (e.g., Lexis and Westlaw) and assists patrons with questions related to these services.
  • Helps with the automated tracking of case dockets using CourtLink and CourtExpress.
  • Performs research using both online and print resources.
  • Provides training assistance in using electronic resources to lawyers, law clerks, and paralegals, and staff.
  • Assists library's inter-library loan section maintain borrowing and lending records and processes inter-library loan requests as needed.
  • Represents the firm's library at professional association meetings that fall within the purview of research services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Timely and regular attendance.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school preferred.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited school preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a law firm library.
  • Demonstrated competence in performing legal and business research.
  • Familiarity with Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, Dialog and the use of the Internet for legal and non-legal research.
  • Ability to learn new online and Internet research tools quickly.
  • Knowledge of HTML preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. Benefits if full-time position.
