NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The Library Division of the Administration and Human Resources Directorate has an opening for a Technical Library Services Specialist III. The successful candidate will work as a team member on information research projects related to the mission of the Laboratory. Under limited direction from the group leader, performs complex literature searches, packages and analyzes search results, helps maintain the Library's electronic information sources, evaluates and recommends information retrieval products/services, develop specialized programmatic information centers, and participates as a team member with technical staff to perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Conduct highly specialized and complex literature searches in the areas of chemistry, physics, or other scientific fields using classified and unclassified computer-based information systems to meet user information needs.
  • Analyze and evaluate data, extract pertinent information, format and forward prepared information analysis to the Client.
  • Select the appropriate database (e.g. scientific, technical, government, or commercial) to research information queries. Provide analysis and retrieval results in various media and formats (database, web page, CD, etc.).
  • Provide formal training to laboratory staff on use of search tools, including advanced Internet search tools and reference databases.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement new library technologies such as the semantic web, topic maps, and delivery of information through the Library's Knowledge Portal.
  • Conduct complex studies of technical information computer-based systems; identify system problems and issues and recommend solutions.
  • As a designated project leader; manage the development of subject based information portals or other information projects, specifying project scope, developing work plans, and evaluating the project upon completion.
  • Develops specialized programmatic branch libraries; including the design, collection and budget development.
