LIBRARIAN

Position

This is a full time position to support all services the Library provides to students, faculty, and staff. The librarian will work as a team member in a three person library. All responsibilities are shared by two librarians and supported by a library technician. The collection, delivery of services and teaching are all electronic and delivered over the internet with twice a year face-to-face contact at residential conferences held in San Francisco. The position is in San Francisco.

Saybrook is a graduate school of psychology offering advanced studies in psychology, human science, and organizational systems based in a humanistic emancipatory tradition. It has a current enrollment of 500 the majority of them are mid-career adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Reference and Instructional Services
    1. Provide reference service to students, faculty, and staff
    2. Assist in the development of online course materials
    3. Review and evaluate assignments completed by students in the required introductory course "Information Competency and Library Use"
    4. Conduct intermediate and advanced workshops for faculty and students
  • Collection Development
    1. Identify and recommend electronic resources for purchase that support the curriculum and research programs of students and faculty
    2. Identify web resources that support curriculum and research of students and faculty
  • Organization of print and electronic resources
    1. Catalog dissertations, master's theses, and projects according to MARC format
    2. Catalog book and non-book collections housed in the Library
    3. Maintain library's web pages
    4. Maintain directory of web resources
  • Administrative support
    1. Collect statistics and submit reports of usage
    2. Monitor expenditures for databases

Required qualifications

  • Master's degree in library/information services from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of two years experience of related technical and professional experience in reference and in library systems.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and Web site creation tools, and experience HTML coding for library web site
  • Knowledge of electronic information resources-their structure, organization, dissemination, and access

Salary is commensurate with experience. Position is benefits eligible.
