Cataloger (part time (40%), one-year appointment) at Water Resources Center Archives, University of California, Berkeley [Assistant Librarian II Associate Librarian III / $40,560 - $49,224 full-time salary per annum, depending upon qualifications]

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Water Resources Center Archives, the Cataloger is responsible for original cataloging of serials, manuscript materials, monographs, and other formats as needed. Original cataloging is governed by the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (2nd edition, 2002 revision) as interpreted by the Library of Congress and assigned subject access utilizing Library of Congress Subject Headings. Records are given full MARC21 tagging. The Cataloger will utilize an in-house classification scheme, developed by WRCA, and will consult print and on-line cataloging resources as needed. When necessary, the Cataloger will upgrade incomplete records, adding subject headings and other data as necessary, and work on resolving catalog maintenance problems related to serials and old UTLAS records. The Cataloger will record statistics and meet regularly with the Technical Services Librarian and the Library Assistant to review cataloging priorities, questions, and procedures. Required: Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent degree and two years of library experience. Working knowledge of AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Headings and MARC21 coding. Previous relevant cataloging experience and demonstrated experience working with an online bibliographic utility (i.e., OCLC, RLIN). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work well with a diverse group of people. Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Preferred: Familiarity with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) and Encoded Archival Description (EAD). Working knowledge of OCLC.
