Information and Web Services Librarian
Assistant or Associate Librarian

The Library and Center for Knowledge Management at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) seeks an innovative librarian for the position of Information and Web Services Librarian. The position is responsible for providing general reference and education services and for the ongoing development and evaluation of the library's website in a team environment. Information services responsibilities include coordinating consultation and reference services and teaching in the library's education programs. Web services responsibilities include working closely with the web team to facilitate access to the library's digital information resources; identify and provide new and innovative technology solutions to enhance services to users; and collaborate with library staff to design, develop, implement, and maintain web pages.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate development and delivery of digital library resources, applications and services.
  • Monitor, identify and communicate innovations in uses of the web to deliver resources, information and library services.
  • Evaluate and analyze the accessibility and usability of the library's digital services.
  • Collaborate with librarians and other staff to coordinate and deliver the Library's consulting and electronic reference services.
  • Teach classes and workshops in the Library's informatics training program, including curriculum-based education programs.

This position offers the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of projects and activities, such as implementation of new technologies and services, and collaboration with other University of California campus libraries.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and information science, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in an academic health or biosciences library or academically-affiliated clinical environment.
  • Strong background in the use of information technologies, such as web development tools, information management tools, and online databases.
  • Experience in web design and usability; applied knowledge of standard web tools and standards; and user-centered design.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including classroom teaching experience.
  • The ability to work independently, to function as a member of a team, and to handle several different projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Experience providing reference services, preferably within an academic medical center environment.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to set and attain goals effectively, and the flexibility to adapt to change.
  • A commitment to excellent service.
  • Background in health or biosciences desirable.

Administrative Information:

The Information & Web Services Librarian is an academic position in the Librarian series. Retention and promotion are based on four criteria: 1) professional competence and quality of service within the position, 2) professional activity outside the Library, 3) University and public service, and 4) research and other creative activity, including teaching and publication.

Appointment will be to the Librarian series at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Librarian ($37,920-$64,164), with level of appointment and starting salary dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package including 16 hours accrued vacation time per month.
