Research Liaison Librarian

Reports to Manager, Public Services; also works in conjunction with other library units: Education/Information Services; Collection Development

The Library and Center for Knowledge Management at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) seeks an innovative librarian for the position of Research Liaison Librarian. We are looking for a dynamic and creative individual who will oversee and implement programs at the new UCSF Mission Bay campus. This thriving research community currently consists of faculty, graduate students, and supporting staff engaged in basic science research in biochemistry, pharmacogenomics, bioinformatics, and many other disciplines. Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide consulting, education, and public services for a growing biomedical research community.
  • Cultivate relationships with faculty and programs and identify opportunities for the library to partner with these groups in order to meet their information needs.
  • Play a leadership role in many aspects of service development and implementation, including needs assessment, project management, development and implementation of new services, and evaluation of tools and services.
  • Coordinate liaison program to facilitate communication between librarians and departments regarding library collections and services.
  • Collaborate with library staff across the organization regarding digital library services, systems support, and technical services operations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and information science, or equivalent
  • Bioscience background
  • Knowledge of and experience searching molecular biology resources such as PubMed, NCBI genetic and protein databases, BIOSIS, etc.
  • Excellent project management skills; experience coordinating and promoting services; teaching and outreach; communicating with faculty.
  • Understanding of basic library operations. Collection development experience desirable.
  • Experience with automated systems; demonstrated willingness to embrace new and emerging technologies.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to set and attain goals effectively, and the flexibility to adapt to change.
  • A commitment to excellent service.

Administrative Information:

The Research Liaison Librarian is an academic position in the Librarian series. Retention and promotion are based on four criteria: 1) professional competence and quality of service within the position, 2) professional activity outside the Library, 3) University and public service, and 4) research and other creative activity, including teaching and publication.

Appointment will be to the Librarian series at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Librarian ($37,920-$64,164), with level of appointment and starting salary dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package including 16 hours accrued vacation time per month.
