Description:

The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library at the Graduate Theological Union seeks a full time (37.5 hours per week) Circulation Assistant at the Library Assistant II level.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons at Circulation/Reserves desk using automated circulation system (INNOPAC/Millennium).
  • Maintain current knowledge of all standard policies and procedures; be able to clearly explain policies to library patrons.
  • Train and direct student circulation assistants as assigned.
  • Oversee security of the building at night and on weekends and perform opening and closing procedures (some evening and weekend hours required).
  • Issue library cards according to established procedures, including entry and updating of online patron records.
  • Perform stacks maintenance tasks, as needed.
  • Answer circulation phone, referring to other departments/units, as appropriate.
  • Instruct the public in the use of photocopiers, microform reader/printers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Perform interlibrary loan procedures and manage missing/search procedures as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent coursework.
  • Service orientation and demonstrated ease in working with the public.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer experience.
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress call numbering system and with online library catalogs.
  • Attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated circulation system.
  • Experience with interlibrary loans and OCLC.
  • Experience training and directing the work of student assistants.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Starting Salary: $25,906 DOE. Excellent benefits package.
