LIBRARY ASSOCIATES is soliciting applicants and referrals for the position of Manager of Technical Services in a large law library in San Diego, CA. The Manager will report to Director of Libraries and will be responsible for supervising the Technical Services Department of the Library.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Asst. Director of Public Services in preparing and managing the Information budget as approved by the Board;
  • Creates and maintains monthly management reports for distribution to the Financial Officer and Director and reviews line item budget with them on a regular basis;
  • Responsible for negotiating all annual library renewals and new acquisitions with vendors in both print and non-print format;
  • Ensures vendor compliance with all terms and conditions of the agreement and for remedying any and all deficiencies;
  • Oversees the administration of the Library's Integrated Library Management System (Innovative Interfaces, Inc.) and maintains its integrity with the support of the Library's IT Department;
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the Technical Services Department, consisting of the sub-departments of Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Serials;
    • Supervising all departmental staff,
    • Scheduling work flow,
    • Creating, developing, and reviewing procedures for the cost-effective operation of the department,
    • Dissemination of material to other departments and staff,
    • Prioritizing all projects.

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution;
  • Expert computer skills; ability to use Word, WordPerfect, and Excel and other business and library-related software, including organizational and communication-related tools;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience in contract negotiations ;
  • Experience supervising and managing both professional and paraprofessional staff at the departmental level;
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible Technical Services experience;
  • Current experience in system administration for integrated library management systems preferred;

Compensation:

  • $60,000.00 - 75,000.00 (DOE);
