Library Associates seeks experienced candidates for the position of Law Library Technician in a prestigious law firm in San Francisco. The purpose of this position is to coordinate the purchase, processing, and payment of new library materials, to perform basic legal research and factual research as needed, to assist with the maintenance and development of the library collection and resource materials, and to assist with interlibrary loans and MCLE activities. This is a temporary position with the possibility of subsequent hire.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Order and document the receipt of incoming library materials; process new materials for cataloging; process invoices for library materials and services.
- Learn basic understanding of the Library's UNICORN system, such as Acquisitions, Serials Check-In and other processes accomplished through UNICORN.
- As needed, provide basic legal and non-legal research and reference services under the direction and supervision of the Library Manager.
- Develop and maintain skills in appropriate electronic databases and CD-ROM applications under supervision of the Library Manager.
- Shelve library materials and maintain library physical space. Able to lift and shift heavy volumes.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist Library Manager with individual "hands-on" and group trainings of attorneys and paralegals in the Library's OPAC/SIRSI system and in web-based/online resources.
- Assist with interlibrary loans: borrowing and documentation.
- Assist with MCLE activities and record-keeping.
- Assist Library Manager in purchase of legal and non-legal resources including print and electronic resources. Help assess resources delivered via the internet or proprietary software.
- Accurately report billable and non-billable time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Two to three (2-3) years of experience working in a law library is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge and understanding of library and information services procedures and an ability to learn law library-related resources and procedures quickly is mandatory.
- Oral and written communication skills to convey information accurately and effectively.
- Strong proficiency with computers and systems, including library automation.
- Good problem-solving skills, detail orientation, and good organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal skills; a team focus and orientation.
