Library Associates is seeking an experienced LAW LIBRARIAN who will provide for the overall management of the library for a mid-sized law firm in Los Angeles. This is a solo professional position; the Law Librarian shall supervise a Library Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and dynamic individual, one who seeks to expand the library service (research, reference, user training, and so forth) and build bridges with internal clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of library operations and assist other offices as needed;
  • Provide expert reference and research services using databases and other library resources in all Firm practice areas with an emphasis on Litigation, Labor & Employment, Real Estate, and Corporate law;
  • Provide appropriate training to attorneys and other staff regarding electronic resources and library resources / services;
  • Plan and manage print and non-print collection;
  • Coordinate in-house CLE seminars and assist attorneys and legal staff with resources and identifying and registering for programs;
  • Prepare and manage department budget;
  • Perform various technical library services as needed;
  • Proactively seek outreach opportunities among legal and support staff, train staff, and to best market library services and resources to staff.

Qualifications:

  • MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required;
  • At least five (5) years of administrative, supervisory, reference, and research experience in a law library environment;
  • Proficiency with online databases, electronic resources and reference materials;
  • Technical skills such as cataloging using automated library management systems such as SIRSI Unicorn;
  • Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office applications, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other related electronic resources;
  • Working knowledge of CD-ROM search engines such as Folio and Premise;
  • Experience in cataloging or classifying legal resources preferred;
  • Capability to solve problems and analyze complex information;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Must be able to work both independently, and as part of a team;
  • Ability to consistently provide a superior level of service to all library patrons / internal clients.
