Description:

Library Associates seeks a SOLO LIBRARIAN for an academic library located in Sacramento, California. This is a full-time position with regular hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work in a start-up environment and create structure, policies, and procedures that will ensure high-quality services to students, faculty and staff;
  • Facilitate collection development, order materials, work with supplies and donors;
  • Develop policies and procedures with regard to circulation, ongoing collection development, website creation, interlibrary loan and consortia relationships with other institutions;
  • Provide a presence for the library through working with students, faculty and staff;
  • Receive and organize the physical materials arriving from Blackwells; investigate other sources for materials;
  • Manage the ongoing relationship with Blackwells and OCLC and perform technical services functions with respect to the 1,000-2,000 MARC/catalog records currently owned by the library;
  • Supervise temporary personnel who may be employed to catalog holdings not currently in the system;
  • Work with faculty and administration to develop a collection development policy for ongoing acquisitions;
  • Advisee and consult with the University on the lease or purchase of online periodicals and databases for the library, including investigating online resources both free and fee-based and make recommendations for review and approval;
  • Develop a budget framework;
  • Prepare a strategic plan for the library that meets the vision, goals and objectives of the University;
  • Work with the University to develop an online presence for the library; a web site which will serve as the platform for the online catalog, announcements and news, links to other resources, etc.

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited college or university
  • Previous experience in an academic library
  • Familiarity with Catholic literature
