The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Library has an immediate opening for a Technical Information Specialist IV.
Responsibilities: With minimal direction, the selected candidate will provide advanced library and information services for all levels of Laboratory scientists, engineers, and managers.
- Will serve as a Library point-of-contact with key programs and departments throughout the Laboratory to continually assess their information needs and partner with them in obtaining Library resources.
- The selected candidate will manage complex library and information projects; specifying project scope, developing methodologies, implementing solutions, and evaluating results.
- Will serve as a Library subject matter specialist; with responsibilities for evaluating and selecting Library materials, conducting library-related research, developing innovative Library products and services, and enhancing the skills and abilities of other Library staff members through training and mentoring.
- In collaboration with management, the selected candidate will assist in developing Library policies, procedures, budgets, long-range plans, and customer service standards.
- Will serve as the Library’s external point-of-contact with various library consortia, professional societies, information centers, and government agencies.
Qualifications:
- The successful Candidate will have a master's degree in a scientific discipline, especially in Chemistry or Biology, and an MLS degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience, along with experience conducting highly specialized and complex literature searches in the areas of physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, biosciences, defense, homeland security, patents, business, and management using classified and unclassified databases and other Library resources.
- Expert knowledge and experience with scientific, technical, engineering, and biomedical databases; including, but not limited, to those from: Thomson ISI, Inspec, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, NLM, Dialog, STN, IHS, Jane’s, API, AIAA, IEEE, SPIE, DOE, DOD, and NASA.
- In-depth knowledge of electronic and hard copy Library reference sources and extensive experience in answering Library reference questions.
- Ability to conduct advanced studies of library information systems and in implementing cost-effective solutions and broad experience with advanced systems for information retrieval, library automation, publishing, technical communication, and database management.
- Experience using Windows-based desktop applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat, EndNote and knowledge of library-oriented software, such as SIRSI, Hyperion, SFX, and MetaLib.
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced employees on technical skills and abilities.
- Extensive experience planning, conducting, and managing complex projects and research studies.
