Library Assistant I
$2,725.00 - $3,234.00 (approximate monthly salary)
The County offers an enhanced PERS Retirement Plan of 2.5% at 55 with the County contributing a significant amount towards the employee’s share of the retirement contribution.

Filing Deadline:
A completed County of Napa application and supplemental questionnaire must be received in Human Resources by 5:00 p.m. on the filing deadline. It is important that you complete all sections of the application form. The application will be used to determine whether you are eligible for the position for which you applied. The Position:
The County of Napa is establishing an eligibility list to fill future openings for full-time, part-time and extra-help Library Assistant I positions in the Napa City-County Library. Currently the essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: check in and check out books and other library materials; use a computer terminal to enter and retrieve information; maintain records on patrons and circulation materials; sort and shelve books and other library materials; prepare books and other materials for circulation; order new books and other materials as directed; mend and repair books; assist patrons in finding materials; respond to patron inquiries; operate cash register; collect monies; advise patrons on library rules, procedures, and services; answer the telephone, transfer calls, and take messages; issue library cards; and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination would be:
Experience: One year of general clerical experience.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by general clerical training.
Ability to: Operate a computer, typewriter, and a cash register.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Special Qualifications: Persons employed in this position must be willing to work evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as required. Assigned hours may be in any of the Napa City-County Library facilities. Spanish bilingual proficiency is desired.
Note: Persons employed in this position must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work with the full range of body movements including reaching, bending, and grasping.

Selection Procedure:
Applicants must clearly demonstrate through their application materials that they meet the qualifications listed above. All completed applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed, and the most appropriately qualified applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List by means of an application evaluation and/or screening committee. Possession of the minimum requirements is not necessarily a guarantee of further advancement in the application process. Those persons who rank in the top standings on the Eligibility List will be referred to the Napa City-County Library for a selection interview. The successful applicant will be fingerprinted. The Eligibility List may be kept active for up to one year. All other applicants meeting the qualifications will be kept on active file for up to one year for consideration as needed.
