APPOINTMENT TYPE AND SCHEDULE: Provisional-Full-time. The provisional appointee will be required to succeed in a Civil Service Examination process for this class in order to be considered for a permanent appointment to this position.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Chief of Branches (COB), coordinates operations and or services within the branch division, including supervision of branches in a geographical district of the City. Represents the COB to other City Departments and to units and divisions in the Library system; participates in system-wide committees, teams and task forces; schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates subordinate staff; requires attendance at public meetings in order to respond to questions from library users and others in the district; represents the Library and initiates outreach to the community; promotes clear communications and courteous cooperation throughout the work place; communicates Library and City policies and procedures; plans work assignments and work schedules; prepares budget proposals; writes work reports and personnel evaluations, works with others to develop policies, improve services and resolve problems; responsible for special or continuing projects related to Branch Bond Program and the renovation and construction of Branch Libraries; may serve as Acting Chief of Branches when needed; performs other job related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies (MLS/MLIS) from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. A copy of diploma or transcript must be submitted to verify the required education (see education verification); AND
  2. Four (4) years of experience as a professional librarian, including at least two (2) years in a position with supervisory responsibilities (see verification section).

WORK SCHEDULE: The regular work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (May require weekend and evening hours as necessary).

VERIFICATION:
All non-SFPL Applicants: All non-SFPL applicants must verify required experience and education (see Education verification) needed to qualify. Current SFPL Employees:
Current employees of the San Francisco Public Library who meet the minimum qualifications based entirely on their SFPL experience need not submit verification. City and County employees will receive credit for the duties of the class to which appointed. If the qualifying experience is a combination of SFPL experience and outside experience then the outside experience must be verified. Outside experience verification must be on the employer's letterhead and must show the applicant, job title(s), duties performed, dates of service and must be signed by the employer.

EDUCATION VERIFICATION:
Verification of education must include copy of transcript or diploma demonstrating the applicant possesses the minimum educational qualifications.

VERIFICATION WAIVER:
Verification may be waived if impossible to obtain. Applicants must submit a signed statement explaining why verification cannot be obtained. Waiver request may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Failure to submit the required verification or request for waiver may result in rejection of the application.
