| Description: | Saint Mary’s College invites applications for a full-time position to manage the Interlibrary Loan & Document Retrieval for all Interlibrary Borrowing and Lending, Document Delivery services. ILL is a service unique to libraries that allows for the sharing of resources such as monographs, journal articles, conference proceedings, government documents, dissertations and other research materials that support student and faculty research and other scholarly activities. Saint Mary's College Library uses OCLC’s ILLiad electronic system and NLM’s Docline for interlibrary borrowing and lending, and Ariel and Odyssey for electronic delivery. Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Based in the Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions, Saint Mary's currently enrolls more than 4,500 students from diverse backgrounds in undergraduate and graduate programs. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the Interlibrary Loan & Document Retrieval Manager is responsible for the provision of all Interlibrary Borrowing and Lending (ILL), Document Retrieval, and Document Delivery services; manages the Link+ consortia for the daily borrowing and lending of books between 40+ libraries and serves as primary contact; determines patron’s eligibility for ILL/Document Retrieval service. Manages the Link+ Consortia service by daily receiving and sending approximately 100 books daily between members of the consortia and prepares reports to monitor transactions between libraries and follows-up as necessary. Analyzes and verifies patron requests and bibliographic citations for accuracy and completion prior to submission of request; searches several online databases such as OCLC, Docline, Albert (SMCL’s online catalog), Melvyl, the Library of Congress, and the Internet to locate requested items and in compliance with the National ILL code (2001); determines most appropriate source from which to borrow or request item depending on turn-around time, cost, and user need; participates in a variety of Library consortia to promote timely and cost-effective resource sharing; receives and process items, notify users of availability and arranges for their timely and safe return; receives and process incoming requests from libraries throughout the United States. Approves invoices for payment; monitors an annual budget of over $8,000; maintains complete and accurate records; prepares detailed statistical reports on a semester and annual basis using specialized ILL statistical software; monitors activity for Copyright Compliance and submits copyright fees as required by law; hires, trains, and supervise student assistant(s) as needed; monitors e-mail and ILL professional Listservs to respond to requests from other libraries and to stay abreast of current trends in the field; provides back up Circulation/Reserve service and supervision of Access Services students; contributes to stack maintenance activities; participates fully as a member of the Access Services team. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated and expressed thorough its Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions. Qualifications: Two (2) to three (3) years experience in an academic library, preferably in Interlibrary Borrowing or cataloging, and with a public service focus. Experience with OCLC’s ILLiad preferred. A Library Technician’s certificate may substitute for relevant library experience appropriate to the position. Minimum of two (2) years of college. Bachelor’s degree highly desirable. Knowledge of the National Interlibrary Code (2001), State, regional and consortia loan codes and agreements as established and adhered to by participating libraries, ALA Interlibrary Borrowing and Lending Procedures, Library Confidentiality Law (California Government Code, Section 6267) and Copyright Law. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience working with personal computers and Windows, Word, Excel software, Adobe acrobat, scanners, library databases and the Internet and email; ability to learn and integrate new technologies into workflow and procedures; ability to prioritize work and to work with a minimum of direct supervision; excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail; strong service ethic and appreciation for the scholarly needs within an academic community; ability to work cooperatively and effectively with all members of a culturally diverse campus community; understanding of academic policy and administrative operations; ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships with diverse individuals, offices and programs; understanding of and commitment to further the College's mission Salary and Benefits: Salary is competitive with other non-profit higher education institutions and commensurate with qualifications, experience, budget and internal equity considerations.
