Responsibilities:
- 30% Serials:
- Maintains accurate and authoritative serials records for the Swain Library.
- Also maintains web page containing Swain’s journal list.
- Helps gather serials management data for Librarian.
- Helps train and supervise student workers to check-in serial issues, create item records, and prepare materials for the bindery.
- Reviews student work and refines training as necessary.
- Collects and maintains statistics.

20% Acquisitions/Bibliographic maintenance:
- Pre-order searching, placing orders with Technical Services, and processing new materials.
- Follows up on claims and processes gifts.
- Processes transfers, cancellations, withdrawals and sublocation changes.
- Responsible for repair and binding of monographs.
- Collects and maintains statistics for acquisitions, cancellations, transfers and withdrawals.statistics.

35% Public Service:
- Opens library M-F, provides assistance at circulation desk, is reference backup for brief reference assistance.
- Instructs users in the basic use of library catalogs and selected core library resources (e.g. SciSearch, Knovel, ChemNetBase

10% Reserves:
- processes reserves for chemistry and chemical engineering classes, liaison with faculty and TA’s to ensure the students have timely access to required materials.
- Collects and maintains reserves statistics.

5% Other:
- backup student supervision in operations managers’ absence.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately and independently after training, ability to prioritize;
- strong analytical and problem solving skills, flexibility to move between tasks on short notice;
- ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment;
- excellent communications skills in English, (verbal, telephone, written);
- ability to interact effectively in a small group environment and with a diverse group of people;
- accuracy and attention to detail essential;
- basic skills, experience, and trouble shooting using a PC in a networked computing environment and use of common applications such as MS Office, email, and online calendar;
- ability to use sound judgment;
- demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Experience working with the public, provide excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy volumes & ability to maneuver fully loaded book trucks.

Desirable:
- Previous library experience using online library systems (UNICORN, MELVYL);
- HTML web markup skills, subject background in chemistry of chemical engineering;
- knowledge of the structure and organization of Stanford University Libraries.
