The Stanford University Libraries seeks a flexible, personable, service-oriented staff member to join the evening team at the Green Library.

The Stanford University Libraries consist of a main research library (Green Library) and fourteen research branch libraries serving the sciences and engineering, social sciences, and humanities and area studies.

The Libraries at Stanford hold more than seven million print volumes and an additional six million non-print items. Stanford University provides an excellent benefits package, including comprehensive medical insurance, generous leave & retirement, and educational assistance.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the LSIII Evening Supervisor, the LSII Evening Specialist will provide excellent public service to our patrons at three service desks.
  • Duties include charging and discharging materials, taking fine payments and looking up information on patron and book records.
  • Candidate must deal with difficult patron situations in a professional and courteous manner, while maintaining patron confidentiality.
  • In absence of supervisor, the Evening Specialist is responsible for building emergencies and other situations which arise.
  • Person likewise serves as backup closer when the normally-assigned closer is on vacation or leave.
  • Additionally, the LSII Evening Specialist performs a number of non-public technical duties when not assigned to the desk, including book searches, making new materials shelf-ready and special projects as assigned by the LSIII Evening Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • REQUIRED:
    • Excellent record of public service in a library environment.
    • Online circulation experience.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Successful experience handling confidential information.
    • Excellent ability to meet established deadlines.
    • Must handle multiple tasks/priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to adapt, concentrate despite frequent interruptions.
    • Team-player.
    • Able to lift heavy books (5-10lbs)/push heavy book trucks (40-50lbs).
    • Extensive experience w/Internet, PC-based MS Office (Word, Excel), email.
  • PREFERRED:
    • Successful experience in an academic library setting.
    • 1 or more years of library or related experience.
    • Knowledge of the structure and organization of SULAIR and Stanford.

Schedule:

Academic Year: Sunday – Thursday 12:00pm-9:00pm
Intercession: Monday – Thursday 12:00pm-9:00pm; 8 hours TBD

May serve as backup closer in absence of assigned closer.
