The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management seeks applications from qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Supervisor – Access Services, classified as a Library Assistant III.

Responsibilities:

  • As the Assistant Supervisor of the Access Services-Circulation Unit, incumbent is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the unit under close supervision;
  • assists with staff schedules and desk coverage; monitors both the Reserve Collection processing and Interlibrary Loan workflow;
  • delegates work and shares staff training responsibility;
  • provides circulation and other public service functions;
  • provides information assistance to patrons at a public services desk;
  • acts as the primary Mission Bay Library Liaison/Coordinator responsible for the daily workflow of book deliveries to/from the UCSF Library at Mission Bay, which includes patron eligibility verification, bibliographic information verification utilizing appropriate automated resources and monitoring of book deliveries in coordination with staff in the UCSF Library at Mission Bay;
  • in addition, incumbent acts as the primary Electronic Reserves (EReserves) Coordinator responsible for processing of reserve items in electronic format utilizing the EReserves module, which includes: web course management, user account management, and coordination with school and library departments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous employment in a US library within the last 4 years;
  • knowledge/experience with Docutek EReserves module or other web-based electronic reserves;
  • knowledge/experience with using an Innopac or other web-based automated circulation system;
  • experience with providing information or reference assistance in an academic library utilizing bibliographic resources and online databases;
  • demonstrated ability to display calm, helpful, positive, friendly, and professional behavior at all times at a busy public service desk;
  • excellent communication skills with the ability to follow and give clear instructions, communicate tactfully, diplomatically and effectively with users and colleagues;
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a timely manner while working under pressure and with frequent distractions;
  • ability to handle personnel and other sensitive issues in a professional, confidential manner while adhering to university and library policies and procedures;
  • ability to work with a diverse group of individuals effectively in a team environment;
  • ability to perform clerical functions such as filing and data entry with strict attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
  • ability to lift heavy material up to 20 lbs, safely move heavily-loaded book trucks, laptop carts, etc.;
  • ability to work up to 3-hour work shifts, with one break, entirely on one’s feet.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a University of California or other academic library;
  • knowledge/experience with Library of Congress call numbers;
  • knowledge/experience using MS Office software.

Compensation:

Classified as a Library Assistant III, $2,817 - $3,670 per month, full time rate. Starting salary usually in the lower end of the range depending on experience and qualifications. This is a career position with an excellent package of health, vacation, and retirement benefits.
