PT Librarian Temp Pool, California State University, East Bay, Hayward, CA

The University Library of California State University, East Bay is establishing a pool of librarians (Assistant Librarian rank) for temporary, part-time employment.

Duties of the Position:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator of Instruction & Research Services, provide quality reference service to CSUEB undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons during weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends. Provide point-of-use instruction in the use of the online catalog, electronic databases, and other library resources. Perform other duties as assigned, which may include participation in instruction sessions for CSUEB classes and other groups; developing bibliographic source guides and/or Internet-based tools; and providing service at CSUEB’s Concord campus in Contra Costa County.

Qualifications:
An MLS from an ALA-accredited institution; familiarity with the principles of information literacy; recent experience and/or education in the provision of academic reference services; recent experience and/or education in library instruction; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work collegially in a diverse, fast-paced environment; a strong service commitment; a willingness and ability to serve students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with recent professional academic reference experience. Preference will also be given to candidates able to work either regular shifts on nights and week-ends or on an on-call hourly basis, and who are able to work at our Concord campus if needed.

Date of Appointment:
Spring Quarter 2007 and will remain in the pool for possible 2007/08 academic year appointment.
