The University’s Archbishop Alemany Library is currently seeking a Reference & Instruction Librarian for a fulltime position offering a 12-month contract subject to annual renewal, with benefits and faculty status. Some evening or weekend hours may be required. Candidates should be dynamic and committed to long-term growth in a university setting. The ideal candidate will be part of a collegially developed library program that emphasizes reference and information literacy instruction and the development of critical thinking skills. The desired starting date is July 1, 2007.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and participate in the planning and development of information literacy courses as well as other programs and classroom presentations to develop greater knowledge and understanding of the techniques and skills required to find and evaluate information;
  • Provide reference service to students, faculty and community members in all subject disciplines;
  • Participate in the Library’s collegial governance structure, serve on faculty governance committees, and develop liaison relationships with academic departments, as needed;
  • Be prepared, with mentoring, to assume other professional responsibilities, as assigned by the Director.

Requirements:

  • Earned Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school, must be able to provide official transcript of earned degree upon request.
  • Second Master’s degree desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability, or enthusiasm to develop, the pedagogical skills required to teach information literacy at a university level.
  • Demonstrated ability, or clear potential, to provide effective reference assistance to patrons of a research–oriented academic library.
  • Familiarity with current library technology, especially as it relates to reference and instruction.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to participate effectively in a collegial academic environment.
  • Teaching experience preferred, particularly at the higher education level.
  • Substantial familiarity with the literature of one or more academic disciplines.
