POSITION: LIBRARY ASSISTANT I (Technical Services)

Basic Function and Scope of the Job: Responsible for all accessioning of the library's serials. Assists with collection maintenance. Receive, check in, process and claim the library's serials in various formats. Filing correspondence, shelving materials, maintaining computerized records and searching internet resources. Other functions include receiving, checking in and filing loose leaf subscriptions. Maintains the periodicals and serials collections in print, microfilm and eletronic formats.

Examples of duties:

* Accessioning all serials
* Check in loose-leaf subscriptions
* Create new check-in records as needed.
* Amend or update information in check-in records and item records
* Make corrections to bibliographic records
* Note title changes and bring to the attention of the head of the dept.
* Label and re-label periodicals/serials boxes as needed.
* Claim periodicals and microfilm, electronically, by fax, phone or mail.
* Set-up and maintain claiming processes with Ebsco and non-Ebsco vendors
* Search the Ebsco and/or other copy banks for missing issues.
* Perform the annual re-labelling the periodicals boxes.
* Participate in the accessioning of new books
* Participate in the sorting of incoming mail
* Participate in the labelling of individual periodical/serial issues
* Participate in the processing and filing of invoices.
* Check for dead links to electronic serials and search for correct ones
* Special projects as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Some college and one year related library experience required. Bachelor's degree and current attendence in a library school or related program preferred.
* Good oral and written communications skills
* Excellent handwritting
* Familiarity with computers
* Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.

SALARY
19 hours/week part-time permanent position. $13 - $16.50/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
