Reference LibrarianGraduate Theological Union,
Berkeley CA (http://library.gtu.edu) Introduction: The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library
of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) has reopened its search for
a full-time (37.5 hours/week) Reference Librarian. This position reports
to the Head of Public Services. Position Summary: Primary provider of Reference
Desk service to students and faculty of the GTU, and to the community
at large. Assists users in locating print and online resources, and
answers reference questions received via email.
Manages electronic subscriptions and products and their licenses using
Innovative Interfaces’ Electronic Resources Management module; maintaining
on-campus and off-site access using Innovative Interfaces’ Web Access
Management module and related web pages.
Coordinates the Reference Desk schedule and maintains Reference Desk
statistics. Works with the Instruction Librarian to teach workshops
on library research; develops and teaches library instruction sessions
for GTU classes. Writes and edits informational handouts, brochures,
and library web pages. Recommends print and online reference materials
to Collection Development for purchase, and receives new materials for
the Reference Collection. Provides user support for Blackboard, the
GTU course management system. Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited
M.L.S. (or its equivalent). Excellent verbal and written communication
skills, and ability to work with a wide variety of people. Knowledge
of theological terminology and familiarity with areas of study in religion
and theology. Strong commitment to growing in expertise in the
use of theological reference materials and to working in a service-oriented
environment. Experience searching online catalogs, licensed web databases,
and CD-ROMs. Comfortable with simple computer/printer troubleshooting
(e.g., restarting computers). 1-3 years experience. Highly qualified
entry level applications will be considered. Desired: Previous experience
in reference in a theological library. Experience with staff mode of
Innovative Interfaces system, including ERM and WAM modules. Reading
knowledge of one or more of the following languages: Hebrew, Greek,
Latin, German, Spanish, French, Italian, or Korean. Salary and benefits: Appointment at Assistant Librarian

leaders, the general public, and students from other institutions within
