Reference Librarian/Assistant to Library Director
Full-time/37.5 hrs./week (Tuesdays through Saturdays)
The Mechanics’ Institute Library (www.milibrary.org) is a full-service,
general interest membership library located in San Francisco’s financial
district. The Library has an immediate opening for a full-time reference
librarian who will also serve as assistant to the Library Director. Under
the general supervision of the Library Director and the Head of Public
Services, this librarian will:
· Provide professional library services to members, including reference and
readers’ advisory services;
· Participate in developing and teaching online and print-based research
classes to Library members;
· Participate in collection development;
· Serve as assistant to the Library Director in implementing on-going and
special projects.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from
an institution accredited by the American Library Association. Priority will
be given to applicants with some library experience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the:
· Ability to provide excellent reference service using print and electronic
resources;
· Ability to teach information literacy skills one-to-one and in a classroom
setting;
· Ability to work cooperatively and with sensitivity as part of a diverse
workforce and with a diverse group of members;
· Knowledge of current library trends in reference, library instruction, and
digital resources;
· Excellent organizational, communication, and public service skills.
Salary commensurate with experience. Full-time employment includes a
generous benefit package.
