LIBRARY ASSISTANT/CIRCULATION/ACQUISTIONS DEPARTMENTS
Position Open: Immediately
Part-time (20-26 hours) (Includes evening and weekend hours)
(Beginning Salary: $14.00/hour)

Mechanics’ Institute Library is a general-interest membership library,
located in the financial district, downtown San Francisco. The Library is
open seven days per week, including four evenings.

The library assistant performs a variety of technical, clerical, and public
service duties. Primary duties include assignments on the circulation desk,
including checking out and receiving library materials, keeping accurate
circulation records, registering new members, book processing, shelving and
shelf-reading, and articulating library policies and procedures to library
users. This position also involves assisting with book orders, data entry
for new titles and other duties.

Desirable Qualifications:
1. General knowledge of library operations, practices and procedures in
technical and public services.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working
relationships with staff and library users
3. Familiarity with online circulation systems.
4. Familiarity with Windows and other Microsoft applications.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
