LIBRARIAN

SACRAMENTO SUPERIOR COURT


WHAT: The Sacramento County Public Law Library is seeking an experienced librarian to become a full-time member of the Law Library's support services team. The Court librarian reports directly to the assistant director for support services. The Court librarian’s work space is located in the Sacramento Superior Court’s Main Courthouse.   

WHERE: Situated conveniently between the Lake Tahoe area of California’s high Sierra and the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital city of Sacramento offers big city sophistication combined with smaller city charm and affordability.  Sacramento enjoys a temperate climate and offers residents easy access to winter and summer outdoor sports activities, such as skiing, boating, hiking, golfing, camping and fishing. The Sacramento metropolitan area also offers numerous cultural activities, especially at the new Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at UC Davis (http://www.mondaviarts.org/).   

THE COURT:  The Sacramento Superior Court has five locations in Sacramento County, and the Sacramento County Public Law Library has two locations in Sacramento County. The main courthouse is located in downtown Sacramento at 720 Ninth Street. HOURS: Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Must be flexible with hours.  There may be some weekend hours from time to time.  

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:  Ability to competently perform a full-range of law library duties; learn and use an integrated online library system; prepare clear, concise directions for law library work routines; understand and follow oral and written directions; acquisitions; occasionally perform routine serials check-in, pocket parting and loose leaf updating; occasionally transport books and boxes of books weighing up to 50 lbs; effectively communicate in English both written and verbally; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.  

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • As a member of the support services team, develops, implements, and maintains a range of library services for the Sacramento Superior Court and performs any duty essential to the achievement of effective library operations.
  • Able to work self directed, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Evaluates information resources in all formats, integrates them to meet the needs of the Sacramento Superior court and discards or archives them as appropriate.
  • Uses project management and other team tools to complete projects successfully.
  • Performs centralized court library acquisitions.
  • Verifies invoices for payment, responds to vendor inquiries and resolves billing discrepancies.
  • Prepares library inventories and collection layouts for multiple court locations.
  • Provides lead direction and assistance to law library staff in processing, distributing, updating Superior Court library materials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Library science masters degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Training and experience in the use of computers and library software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • A valid California driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a security clearance.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A strong commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Two to three years of progressive supervisory experience in a library setting.
  • Training in law librarianship and legal bibliography.
  • Project management and planning skills.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary range is from $4,583.17 to $5,570.87 per month and will be set commensurate with education and experience.  Additional $987 per month may be used toward the library’s cafeteria plan benefits. Cafeteria options include choice of several health plans, dental plan, short-term disability, life and other insurance plans, out-of pocket medical and family care reimbursement, and cash back. CalPERS retirement plan includes 7% employee contribution, optional 457 deferred compensation plan, employer paid long-term disability, and rapid transit or parking subsidies. Northern California Association of Law Libraries and American Association of Law Libraries membership provided. 14 Paid holidays, vacation accrual, sick leave accrual 10 hours per month.
