Information Specialist

SRI International's Information Technology Services (ITS) group builds and enables the technologies supporting SRI's business, computing infrastructure, and corporate applications, including networking, telephony, IT security, email and calendar, desktop support, corporate applications and servers, web sites, and the library.  This collegial group works closely with its customers to build the kind of computing and research environment that meets the company's needs. 

Our open position is in the ITS Archiving and Research group which supports SRI's library and the archiving of materials related to SRI's intellectual property.

Essential Functions:
Provides library and information retrieval services for Biosciences and other Institute research groups, utilizing print, online and Internet sources, both local and remote.  Responds to wide-ranging staff queries by creative use of Internet and online sources, such as Dialog Information Services.  Responsible for maintaining Life Sciences collection in good order.  Handles document delivery function for all SRI staff

Other Duties:
Retrieves articles from Stanford University.  Orders materials for staff as needed, either directly or through ITSAR's order department.  Uses STAR system to receive, process, and circulate library materials.  Keeps usage statistics; shelves materials after use.  Shifts and transports items to storage area as needed to maintain stacks.  May be asked to help with work in other parts of the department

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
Degree in Library Science

EXPERIENCE:
At least 6 years of increasingly responsible library experience.  Basic knowledge of online/Internet searching conventions and techniques.  Knowledge of Windows-based computers, word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail.
