The Stanford Health Library (http://healthlibrary.stanford.edu), a consumer health library that is a community service of Stanford University Hospital and Clinics, has an opening for a full-time Librarian.
JOB SUMMARY
Manages the in-hospital branch of consumer health library. Directs the preparation of inpatient, staff and outside patron research packets. Supervises volunteer staff. Performs on-line database searches. Implements and maintains a web-based repository for all Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) patient education materials in liaison with Nursing Administration. Assists in the staffing, promotion, and delivery of services for all library sites. Oversees daily working of Internet public access computers throughout the hospital, including computer maintenance and referral to IT for support. Chairs Stanford Hospital Patient Education Committee; works to meet the JCHAO standards for patient education needs within SHC through the development of a web-based database.
Works with Librarian at Stanford Shopping Center Branch to ensure that library collection meets patron needs. Trains, manages and supports volunteer staff. Participates in the planning process for library expenditures and physical facilities. Coordinates staffing for hospital site. Participates in promotion planning and responsible for implementing segments of the plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Plan on-line information services, i.e. create and maintain the patient education database in liaison with Nursing Administration
-Supervise patron services
-Coordinate staffing of libraries with other branches
-Manage high-tech information equipment
-Plan and conduct internet training modules for volunteers and hospital staff in-services
on-site supervision of LRAs
-Maintain current policies and procedures manual
-Write and edit volunteer newsletter and maintain volunteer notebooks
-Manage initial setup, planning and ongoing library services for branches/affiliates whenever any move is implemented
-Participate in consulting projects
-Make public presentations on THL library services
Job Qualifications:
M.L.S. OR M.L.I.S.required, familiarity and experience with medical terminology necessary. Experience with on-line database management and searching. Experience in personnel management, training and supervision. Interest and experience in public service and volunteer relations. Strong communication skills, verbal and written. Ability to work with diverse agencies and individuals. Self motivated and committed to providing high quality information service.
