The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management seeks applications from qualified individuals for the position Night/Weekend Services Assistant, classified as a Library Assistant III.

The Night/Weekend Services Assistant (NWSA) coordinates night and weekend activities under direction of the Night/Weekend Services Coordinator; the incumbent provides information assistance, maintains direct public contact for 6-10 hours per week and handles major patron questions, problems and complaints; the incumbent coordinates the staff of the Circulation and Stacks units during night/weekend shifts; the incumbent works on public services projects as assigned; the incumbent works in coordination with the Stacks Senior Work Leader to achieve shelving goals; assists at the Circulation desk as needed.

Required Qualifications
Ability to lift heavy material (e.g., books, laptops, and other library material) weighing up to 20lbs., and safely push heavily loaded book trucks, laptop carts, etc; ability to shelve and/or retrieve material from shelves from ground level to up to seven feet in height by repetitive proper stretching, bending, squatting, kneeling, walking, and/or standing on step stool/ladder, climbing stairs, etc.; proven excellent customer service skills and demeanor—enjoy working with people; ability to maintain composure in fast-paced environment; complaint resolution skills; ability to follow and give instructions, with excellent attention to detail; ability to organize work, manage time, and follow through on assignments independently ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; willingness to work weekend and late evening schedule; extremely reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to assimilate large amounts of information accurately and quickly; ability to deal with emergency situations--maintaining composure while coordinating the response to a possible emergency.

Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience in an academic or biomedical library; library information desk service experience; knowledge/experience with using MS Windows and MS Office applications; experience in a University of California Library; experience using and/or teaching PUBMED and other library related databases; knowledge/experience with Library of Congress (LC) call number system and National Library of Medicine (NLM) call number system; experience using the Innopac System or other similar library computer system.

Compensation
Classified as a Library Assistant III, $2,932 - $3,813 per month, full time rate. Starting salary usually in the lower end of the range depending on experience and qualifications. This is a career position with an excellent package of health, vacation, and retirement benefits.
