Description:

The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management seeks applications from qualified individuals for the position of Circulation Assistant – Mission Bay Library, classified as a Library Assistant II. This is a 50% position.

This position provides circulation and information services during evenings and on weekends at the UCSF Mission Bay Library; provides basic circulation services, such as checking out and renewing library materials to qualified borrowers via automated circulation system; answers routine directional and holdings questions both in person and by phone; must demonstrate excellent communication skills and display a calm, professional and courteous public service demeanor at all times; responsible for assisting with timely opening and closing of the library; the incumbent may handle additional duties as designated by direct supervisor when supervisor is not present; flexibility with work schedule, excellent attendance and punctuality are essential.

Required Qualifications
Recent public service experience in an automated library; proven excellent customer service skills and demeanor; excellent library-based computing skills, use of databases, Internet, and WWW; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; understand and retain complex information and procedures, which may arise rarely; ability to lift heavy material, up to 20lbs.; safely move heavily loaded book trucks, laptop carts, etc.; ability to shelve and/or retrieve material from shelves from ground level up to seven feet in height; minor computer/printer problem troubleshooting experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience in an American academic or biomedical library; library information service desk experience; experience teaching use of online public catalogs. Experience using the Innopac System; health science or life science education or work experience; experience in a University of California Library;

Compensation
Classified as a Library Assistant II, $2,584 - $3,340 per month, full time rate, pro-rated to 50%. Starting salary usually in the lower end of the range depending on experience and qualifications. This is a career position with an excellent package of health, vacation, and retirement benefits.
