POSITION TITLE:         Library Technician
REPORTS TO:             Director of Library Services
HOURS:                  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:      Full-time, Exempt



POSITION SUMMARY

The Library Technician, under the general direction of the Director of Library Services is responsible for library support services including, materials ordering and processing, reserve collection maintenance, serials maintenance, support of circulation and ILL services, and ordering of office supplies.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant University. S/he will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of Alliant University’s Mission and Vision.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Materials ordering: Order books through approval vendor and books on firm order. Order psychological test materials, DVDs and Videos, and other instructional materials. Create order records in Innopac (Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium) system. Purchase library supplies as requested.

2. Materials processing: Receive and physically process new materials including books, tests and gifts.  Assist with copy cataloging in Innopac system. Process and maintain current year Ph.D. and Psy.D. proposals. Perform minor book repairs as necessary.

3. Course reserves: Process faculty reserve requests. Create and maintain course reserve records in library system. Scan materials for electronic reserves. Create and maintain E-reserve records each semester. Move materials on and off reserve status each semester; contact faculty members with regard to status of their reserve materials.

4. Serials maintenance: Oversee checkin, claiming and binding of print journals.

5. Supervision: Train and supervise student assistants in some aspects of materials processing, including reserve materials and journals.

6. Participate in special projects as required; assist at circulation desk as needed.  Perform other duties as assigned.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree or Library Technician Certificate

Experience:  Working in library technical services; familiarity with Library of Congress cataloging; familiarity with library automation systems.  Working with Innovative Interfaces’ Innopac or Millennium system desirable.

Technical Skills:  Accurate typing and word processing skills.

Other Requirements:  Ability to work harmoniously with all segments of the campus community and to work independently, take initiative when appropriate, as well as work in a team environment; strict attention to detail and good organization skills; good interpersonal and communication skills.
