Library Technician II (Audiovisual Center) (#2CLR15)
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Library
Technician II (Audiovisuals) for Chabot College in Hayward . Under
general supervision, the Library Technician II performs a variety of
specialized technical and complex tasks of varying degrees of difficulty
and responsibility in support of various Learning Resources Center
functions and service area(s) such as acquisitions, circulation/public
services, and technical services.
Assignment/Salary/Beginning Date of Employment
This position is part-time, 26 hr/wk (65%), Monday through Friday, hours
will vary, 10 mo/yr. The salary is $2,443.30/mo (Range 34, Funding: 100%
District). Employment will begin on or around November 14, 2007.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience : An equivalent combination of post high school
education and three years of experience that shall include one year of
specific course work and one year of experience related to area of
assignment. Formal education in library technical services is highly
desirable; work experience in a library is preferred; work experience in
an academic setting is desirable.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic,
socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college
students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Knowledge of : Proper English usage, grammar, spelling and vocabulary;
modern office methods, procedures, practices, and equipment including
personal computers and related software including office applications
and library automation software; interpersonal relationship skills using
tact, patience, courtesy, and diplomacy; standard operating practices
associated with the assigned work area(s); and terminology used in the
Learning Resources Center environment.
Skills in : Operating a variety of office equipment including computers
and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and specialized Learning
Resources Center applications; and enter, modify, and retrieve data
using a computer at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
Ability to: Oversee assigned Learning Resources Center area(s),
functions, and services; learn specialized terminology, equipment, and
procedures related to assigned work area(s); learn quickly new
procedures and work effectively in a rapidly changing environment;
perform specialized technical work with accuracy and speed under minimal
supervision; demonstrate a pleasant demeanor and service-oriented
attitude and behavior in assisting students, faculty, and the general
public; perform a full range of Learning Resources Center duties in an
automated environment; retrieve, create, edit, maintain, and update
records, files, and documents using automated Learning Resources Center
software, databases, word processing, and other standard office
applications; effectively utilize the Internet and the world-wide web;
work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with
constant interruptions; work independently as well as in a team-oriented
environment; independently follow through and complete assignments
within specified deadlines accurately and efficiently; use judgment in
evaluate the work of assigned student assistants and other assigned
staff; understand and follow oral and written instructions; relate
effectively to people of varied backgrounds; communicate clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain
effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of
work.

Desirable Qualifications
• Experience cataloging audiovisual materials using OCLC;
• Experience working in a college library audiovisual department;
• Experience in Circulation using an automated circulation system;
• Experience working with vendors to order audiovisual materials;
• Experience supervising student workers.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee assigned public service area(s) such as general circulation,
reserves, audiovisual and/or periodical service desk;
• Perform a full range of technical processing duties including copy
cataloging and maintaining OPAC records; use computer databases to
retrieve and modify a variety of records information; process materials
for addition to the collection; make minor repairs to damaged materials;
• Perform acquisitions duties including ordering, receiving, and
processing materials; search for and order materials; perform
bibliographic checks on needed materials; receive and process new and
gift materials; maintain order files and related information and
statistics;
• Oversee serials maintenance including ordering, check-in, claiming,
and maintenance of serials; update and maintain serial holdings list;
• Perform a variety of duties involved in stacks maintenance; oversee
shelving of library materials; perform general shelf maintenance
including shelf reading; search for lost items; participate in space
planning and shifting of the collection as needed; oversee inventory of
assigned collection;
• Oversee circulation desk activities; process all notices and billing
for unreturned materials;
• Maintain a variety of records and files; prepare necessary
correspondence and reports;
• Supervise student assistants working in assigned Learning Resources
Center function and service area(s); hire, schedule, train, and evaluate
assigned student assistants;
• Supervise the work of other assigned personnel;
• Maintain procedures manual and student assistant handbook related to
functions and area(s) of assignment;
• Instruct students in how to use Learning Resources Center equipment
including audiovisual equipment;
• Provide computer technical support for library software;
• Receive and process interlibrary loan requests for books and other
materials;
• Oversee processing and circulation of faculty course reserve
materials;
• Assist in designing and providing library information materials;
• Apply safety precautions that impact the personnel and equipment in
assigned area(s);
• Order and maintain departmental supplies and library equipment;
• Provide staffing at the circulation desk or other library service
points as needed;
• Support overall library operations and services through projects and
other duties as appropriate and assigned;
• Attend professional development courses as appropriate;
• Perform other related tasks as required.
