| Description: | Position: Stanford University - Library Systems Programmer and Analyst The Library Systems Programmer and Analyst will implement and maintain library technologies to support the mission of Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources (SULAIR). The ideal candidate will develop and enhance the Libraries’ management and information delivery systems, as well as support the 24x7 operation of the Integrated Library System (ILS) and associated services. The successful candidate will offer expertise in computer science, systems analysis, and application development. Experience with library systems and project management in a technical environment is highly desirable. The Library Systems Programmer and Analyst will report to the Manager, Systems Integration and work cross-functionally across the library with members of Collections and Services and Technical Services groups, as well as with other members of Digital Library Systems & Services to insure accurate and timely data support and seamless digital library services. Responsibilities * Deploy and support integrative systems components for the Unicorn ILS (OPAC, catalog, circulation, and acquisitions modules), SFX link resolver, LAS inventory application, and similar library systems. * Troubleshoot, resolve and report problems with existing systems. * Provide business and technical analysis for library processes and supporting systems with a focus on discovery, delivery and integration of resources. Provide hands-on analytical support for projects involving the ILS. * Create and maintain data interfaces to extract, reformat, and import data between local and external applications, e.g., patron data, usage statistics, bibliographic data, acquisitions data, authority and vocabulary control data using relevant data migration tools including XSLT and Java. * Design methods and create programs to analyze print and digital collections for decision making. Produce statistical reports using data from library systems, scanned barcode logs and other data as appropriate. Extract and import statistical data between systems to create reports. * Conduct direct communication with non-technical library staff to identify business requirements. Translate business requirements to system enhancements, and plan and code enhancement implementations. * Contribute to collaborative web development projects, implementing designs by creating prototypes using JavaScript, XML, XSLT, CSS, PHP and XHTML. Qualifications * The successful candidate will have a four year college degree in Computer Science or equivalent, and/or an advanced degree in Library & Information Science with an emphasis on IT systems*.* * Programming experience with relational databases, preferably Oracle. * Programming skills in UNIX shell scripting, Perl, SQL, PL/SQL are required. * Programming skills in Java, C++, PHP, XSLT, and AJAX are desired. * Familiarity with AWK, XML, CSS, and XHTML is desired. * Knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systems is required. Windows setup and diagnostic skills are desirable. * Familiarity with application development processes and methods, including requirements gathering, specification, human-centered design, quality assurance, usability testing and release management, highly desirable. * Strong service orientation is essential, as is the ability to excel in a team environment. * Hands-on library experience highly desirable, especially in the areas of cataloging, acquisitions, and/or circulation. * Familiarity with systems administration or database administration is a plus. * 5-7 years job-related experience required.
