Description:

The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management seeks applications from qualified individuals for the position of Night/Weekend Services Work Leader, classified as a Library Assistant III.  This is a 50% position. 

The Night/Weekend Services Work Leader (NWSWL) is responsible for assisting with routine and special Night/Weekend Services Unit projects and for reporting unit functions and emergencies to the Night/Weekend Services Coordinator or Night/Weekend Services Assistant; incumbent is responsible for assigning and overseeing daily tasks performed by the shelving crew and assisting with staff training and implementation of new procedures; incumbent works at the Circulation Desk and the Information Desk, and opens/closes building on some shifts; incumbent performs other duties, assigned additional responsibilities or works extra hours in support of Public & Information Services; incumbent works effectively on unit teams and demonstrates strong work ethics; excellent attendance, flexibility and punctuality are essential. 

Required Qualifications

Ability to deal with emergency situations--maintaining composure while coordinating the response to a possible emergency; ability to file accurately and shelve efficiently &  quickly, using an alpha-numeric decimal system; ability to follow and give instructions, with good attention to detail; ability to work effective in a team environment; ability to handle personnel and other sensitive issues in a  professional manner while adhering to university and library policies and procedures; ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities  while working under pressure with frequent distractions; ability to left heavy volumes (up to 20 lbs), push heavily- loaded book trucks, and shelve while standing or on a ladder; ability to work up to 3-hour work shifts, with one break, entirely on one’s feet; willingness to work weekend and late evening schedule.; ability to work additional hours as needed; must be able to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality; ability to display a helpful and courteous demeanor while serving the public; position requires intermittent bending, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, reaching above shoulder level, sitting, standing, walking, carrying/lifting up to 20 pounds, gripping/grasping, repetitive movements of upper extremities.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent experience in an academic or biomedical library;  recent experience in a University of California library; knowledge/experience with using MS Windows and MS Office applications; knowledge/experience with Library of Congress (LC) call number system and National Library of Medicine (NLM) call number system; library information desk service experience; experience using the Innopac System or other similar library computer system; experience using and/or teaching PUBMED and other library related databases. 

Compensation

Classified as a Library Assistant III, $2,954 - $3,842 per month, full time rate, pro-rated to 50%.  Starting salary usually in the lower end of the range depending on experience and qualifications. This is a career position with an excellent package of health, vacation, and retirement benefits.
