| Description: | THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking an energetic and motivated Reference Librarian for the Main Library Information Desk to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. The Adult Services Reference Librarian will provide professional reference and readers' advisory assistance, will participate in collection development assignments, create library displays and booklists, and will perform other related duties as required. Will also participate in monthly Information Services Team meetings. This is a part-time temporary position that offers limited benefits after working a specified number of hours. SCHEDULE: Friday thru Sunday afternoons (11 or 12 hours per week), plus one meeting per month on Tuesday afternoon. Initial temporary position is for 6 months. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Masters in Library Science (MLS) required, Public Library experience desirable. KNOWLEDGE OF: Modern professional library principles, practices and procedures, reference materials and bibliographic tools. Strong customer service and computer skills. Good working knowledge of library databases. Ability to speak Spanish or Chinese desirable but not required. ADA SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: ability to work in a standard library environment; ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, twist, lift 40 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds. SALARY RANGE: $25.27 – $30.12 per hour, initial payrate is usually at the first step.
