Information Specialist II (Library)

The Public Health Institute (PHI) is a large non-profit public health organization conducting a broad range of public health research, training, and technical assistance programs in California, throughout the nation, and around the world. PHI is seeking a full time Information Specialist II for the Alcohol Research Group (ARG). This position is located in Emeryville, CA.

Under the supervision of the Research Program Administrator II (Manager of Administrative Support Services), the Information Specialist will be responsible for various tasks related to the overall functioning of the Library.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Orders and processes requests for materials such as books, reports, periodicals, serials, Inter-library loans, etc.
- Maintains and updates descriptive and subject cataloguing; enters data into library databases.
- In conjunction with supervisor, orders needed supplies and library materials.
- Implements internal library policy and procedures as developed by supervisor and Library Committee.
- Assists with electronic bibliographic database searches for ARG research staff
- Communicates recent acquisitions to scientific staff.
- In conjunction with the Library Committee, helps identify reference materials; assists ARG staff with their retrieval.
- Accepts and performs other related job duties and responsibilities as required.
- Performs duties in a courteous friendly manner that fosters superior service.

Qualifications:

- Degree in Management Information Systems, Library Studies or similar is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years library experience required; background in biomedical or social science fields a plus. Experience in performing bibliographic services in the health field desirable.
- Applicants must possess word-processing and database software skills and have the ability to compose correspondence.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work,
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Good communication skills; ability to interact effectively with library users and in an office environment.
- Technical experience with InMagic database software is desirable but not required.
- The applicant must also be reliable and flexible.

Compensation:

Hourly pay range is $18.27 (38,007 yearly) to $21.99 (45,741 yearly) DOE. PHI offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short/long term disability insurance, life insurance, 403b (tax sheltered annuity) and subsidizes a portion of public transportation cost.
