<h3>GENERAL SUMMARY</h3>
<p>Established 28 years ago, National Hispanic University provides accessible and affordable quality education for underserved students.  Through innovation, engagement and student-centered learning, National Hispanic University, a fully accredited, four-year university is fostering successful academic and economic futures of its students.  The National Hispanic University offers undergraduate degrees in Child Development, Liberal Studies, Business, and Mathematics and Science, as well as a Master’s degree in Teacher Education and several California teacher certificate programs.</p>
<p>We seek a librarian with experience and training in information literacy, research methods, teacher education, and/ or early childhood education, who will work with both campus based and online students and faculty.</p>
<p>The Reference Librarian reports to the Director of Library Services. , position will be responsible for the following services and assignments.</p>
<h3>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide expertise and leadership in general reference services (live, remote, and web-based).</li>
<li>Develop and present course-related instruction and conduct seminars, student orientations and student tutorials in undergraduate and graduate subject areas.</li>
<li>Collaborate with faculty on research projects and provide research assistance to faculty and graduate students.</li>
<li>Create subject web pages and guides to research.</li>
<li>Develop collections in appropriate formats to support the academic units served.</li>
<li>Serve as liaison to assigned departments.</li>
<li>Maintain, analyze and report statistics in area of responsibility.</li>
<li>Represent the National Hispanic University Library at campus and Laureate and at local and national library events.</li>

<p>The College is recruiting for a Reference Librarian. Full-Time, Exempt</p>
<h3>Representative Duties</h3>
<p>Under the general direction of the Head of Reference, this position provides a full range of reference and instructional services including staffing the Reference Desk at the F.W. Olin Library. The Reference Librarian will also teach classes, assist with circulation functions, handle email reference inquiries, and participate in collection development for several academic departments. <h3>Minimum Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience using databases, other electronic resources, online catalogs, the Internet, and print resources.</li>
<li>Strong oral and written communication skills.</li>
<li>Effective teaching skills in group and individual settings.</li>
<li>Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills.</li>
<li>Enthusiasm and commitment to library public services.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of hardware and software used in libraries (e.g., PCs, Apple products, printers, etc.).</li>
<li>Conversant with emerging technologies.</li>
<li>Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.</li>
<li>Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.</li>
<li>Ability to provide excellent customer service to F.W. Olin Library patrons.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred Qualifications:</h3>
<ul>
<li>1-3 years of increasingly responsible reference/public service experience, preferably in an academic library.</li>
<li>Teaching experience, including curriculum planning, lesson plans, and instruction.</li>
<li>Experience with course reserve and electronic reserve procedures.</li>
<li>Experience with interlibrary loan procedures.</li>
<li>Experience using an integrated library system, particularly Innovative Interfaces.</li>
<li>Supervisory experience.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>SALARY:</strong> Salary of $40,000-$42,000, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403b retirement plan, 22 days vacation plus 13 paid holidays and 12 sick days annually. Staff also receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.</p>

<li>Participate in the acquisitions and de-accessioning of library materials.</li>
<li>Participate in collection development, assessment, and evaluation</li>
<li>Provide reference, information services, research and instructional services to Golden Gate University students, faculty, staff, corporate and alumni members at all locations, including those affiliated with the University via Cybercampus</li>
<li>When on duty as reference librarian, aid library assistants and student assistants in handling questions of policies, complaints, difficult patrons, and security issues</li>
<li>Orient patrons and prospective students to the range of print and online resources available</li>
<li>Work with Head of Technical Services, Electronic Resources and Web Librarians to ensure online library access and to provide online reference resources</li>
<li>Work with Instruction Librarian to create and facilitate workshops and training sessions, both in person and online</li>
<li>Collaborate with other staff in peer training and staff development</li>
<li>Collaborate with other staff in assessing qualitatively and quantitatively the effectiveness of collection development and identifying ways to make collection development even more effective and efficient</li>
<li>Participate in relevant listservs to learn about and share information about  new resources, ideas, solutions and recommendations</li>
<li>Complete special projects as assigned by the Library Director</li>

<p>Schedule includes evening reference shifts and one or more weekend days per month. Hours may range from 0 to 19 per week, not to exceed 999 hours within the year.</p>
<h3>QUALIFICATIONS</h3>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Paul J. Cushing Library at Holy Names University seeks a temporary, part-time, Reference Librarian to operate evening hours Monday – Thursday from 4 – 7 pm, and Friday, 4-6pm.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities include:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li> Staff information desk during evening hours and provide reference and computer-related  assistance to patrons</li>
<li> Learn how to use the Library Information Portal and Symphony ILS</li>
<li> Devise training materials in use of the Library Information Portal</li>
<li> Train Circulation students in how to use the Library Information Portal</li>
<li> Provide supervision and guidance as needed to student workers in Circulation</li>
<li> Handle and report on unsolved patron issues when needed</li>
<li> Interpret library policies to the patrons when necessary</li>
<li> Assist in administration of electronic resources as needed</li>
<li> Learn and perform duties associated with Symphony’s Serials module</li>
<li> Perform additional duties as needed</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li> MLIS degree (or units completed toward that degree) with some previous library experience preferred; will accept person with    previous library experience who is currently working toward the MLIS degree</li>
<li> Computer fluency</li>
<li> Courteous and professional manner</li>
<li> Familiarity with an integrated online library system</li>
<li> Proficiency with the use of online databases and Web-searching</li>
</ul>
